Beginning in 2021, the programme progressed from policy and incentives to major private-sector investments by Micron, Tata Electronics, CG Power, Kaynes, HCL-Foxconn and others. By 2026, India had approved 12 semiconductor manufacturing projects with an investment pipeline of approximately ₹1.64 lakh crore, while commercial production had begun at multiple facilities. In July 2026, the government approved Semicon 2.0 with an additional ₹1,27,500 crore outlay to deepen India's semiconductor design, manufacturing, materials, equipment and supply-chain capabilities. The project carries an investment of ₹22,516 crore and is designed to assemble and test DRAM and NAND products. 29 February 2024 #### India approves three major semiconductor units The Union Cabinet approved three semiconductor projects involving Tata Electronics, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test and CG Power, representing approximately ₹1.26 lakh crore of combined investment. 29 February 2024 #### Tata Electronics semiconductor fab approved in Dholera Tata Electronics received approval to establish a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, in partnership with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. The approximately ₹91,000 crore facility is designed for around 50,000 wafer starts per month. 29 February 2024 #### Tata semiconductor packaging plant approved in Assam Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test received approval for a semiconductor assembly and test facility at Morigaon, Assam. The approximately ₹27,000 crore facility is designed for production capacity of around 48 million semiconductor chips per day. 29 February 2024 #### CG Power semiconductor unit approved CG Power received approval for a semiconductor facility at Sanand, Gujarat, in partnership with Renesas and Stars Microelectronics. The approximately ₹7,600 crore project is designed for production of around 15 million chips per day. 13 March 2024 #### Foundation stones laid for three semiconductor facilities Foundation stones were laid for the Tata Electronics Dholera fab, Tata semiconductor assembly facility in Assam and CG Power semiconductor facility in Gujarat, moving the projects from approvals into physical construction. 2 September 2024 #### Kaynes semiconductor unit approved The government approved Kaynes Semicon's semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of ₹3,307 crore. 14 May 2025 #### HCL-Foxconn semiconductor unit approved The government approved a semiconductor manufacturing project by the HCL-Foxconn joint venture near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. The approximately ₹3,700 crore project is designed for 20,000 wafers per month and approximately 36 million units annually. 12 August 2025 #### Four additional semiconductor projects approved Four additional semiconductor manufacturing projects were approved in Odisha, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, expanding the ecosystem into silicon carbide, advanced packaging and discrete semiconductor devices. 12 August 2025 #### India's first commercial silicon carbide fab approved SicSem's semiconductor project in Odisha was approved with an investment of approximately ₹2,066 crore, adding commercial silicon carbide fabrication capabilities to India's emerging semiconductor ecosystem. 1 September 2025 #### CG Semi pilot line begins operations CG Semi launched an end-to-end OSAT pilot line in Sanand, demonstrating progress from semiconductor project approvals toward actual domestic assembly, packaging and testing operations. 12 December 2025 #### Approved semiconductor investment reaches ₹1.6 lakh crore The government reported that ten semiconductor units had been approved under the Semicon India Programme with cumulative investment of approximately ₹1.6 lakh crore. 4 February 2026 #### Four semiconductor units enter pilot production Government data reported that four of India's approved semiconductor manufacturing units had begun pilot production as the programme transitioned from construction into manufacturing. 4 February 2026 #### Indian semiconductor design ecosystem expands Twenty-four semiconductor design projects were receiving government support, 16 had completed chip tape-outs and 13 had received venture-capital funding.
