India Semiconductor Mission
India launched the India Semiconductor Mission as part of the ₹76,000 crore Semicon India Programme to build a domestic semiconductor ecosystem spanning chip design, fabrication, assembly, testing, packaging, equipment and materials. Beginning in 2021, the programme progressed from policy and incentives to major private-sector investments by Micron, Tata Electronics, CG Power, Kaynes, HCL-Foxconn and others. By 2026, India had approved 12 semiconductor manufacturing projects with an investment pipeline of approximately ₹1.64 lakh crore, while commercial production had begun at multiple facilities. In July 2026, the government approved Semicon 2.0 with an additional ₹1,27,500 crore outlay to deepen India's semiconductor design, manufacturing, materials, equipment and supply-chain capabilities.
